Tuesday 02 Feb 2021[Journal Club] Title: Identifying TESS exoplanets with Citizen Science and Machine Learning

Ben Lakeland - University of Exeter

Zoom 11:15-11:50

The transit method has identified thousands of exoplanets by detecting dips in the light curve of the host star as the planet obscures part of the stellar disk. Conventional pipelines exploit the periodic nature of planetary signals, thereby biasing towards detection of short period planets. In this talk I will discuss the citizen science project Planet Hunters Tess and the use of machine learning algorithms to remove common false positive scenarios.
