In this talk we mention some applications of set-theoretic solutions of the quantum Yang-Baxter equation in other research areas. We describe R-matrices obtained from braces and skew braces. We also mention some related open problems on braces. This talk is based on a joint work with Alicja Smoktunowicz. We will also quote some results by Rober Weston about applications of such R-matrices.
