Thursday 01 Oct 2015Dynamics seminar: Periodic solutions of a delayed Van der Pol oscillator

Gabor Kiss - Bolyai Institute, University of Szeged, Hungary

H103 14:30-16:30

The Van der Pol oscillator has played an important role in modelling many real-world phenomena. For instance, its slightly modified version, the FitzHugh-Nagumo model describes the action potentials of neurons. We consider a delayed version of the Van der Pol oscillator, and report on the existence of periodic solutions which had been observed numerically some decades ago. Also, we describe our computational fixed-point theory, the method that we used to validate the existence of the period solutions in question.
