Thursday 02 May 2013Chemistry ontologies in practice; experience with text mining and Open PHACTS

Colin Batchelor - Chemistry in Cambridge

Laver LT3 15:00-16:00

At the Royal Society of Chemistry we've been working with ontologies for chemistry since 2006. At first this was only to provide controlled vocabularies for effective text mining of journal articles but since then we have become the chemistry partner for Open PHACTS, a semantic-web driven EU project to provide integrated pharmacological data for drug discovery. I'll be talking about different approaches to representing chemical data in RDF and how our choices have been informed by our experiences in natural language processing.
