Monday 20 Feb 2012Single element changes in electrical networks

Thomas Berger - Ilmenau University of Technology, Germany

203 15:00-16:00

The problem of redesigning passive electrical networks is studied for the special cases of single
element changes in RC or RL networks. The effects of such changes on the natural frequencies
of the network are investigated. This is studied in terms of the underlying matrix pencil and
its eigenvalues. Using exterior algebra it will be shown that the problem is equivalent to a root
locus problem. The properties and behaviour of the root locus are presented and its implications
for the natural frequencies of the network are derived.
