Tuesday 17 Sep 2019[Journal Club] Direct Detection of Solar Angular Momentum Loss using the WIND Spacecraft

Amy Hewitt -

4th Floor Interaction Area, Physics building 11:15-11:35

I have used data from the WIND spacecraft to produce a new, experimental value for the angular momentum loss rate of the Sun. In this talk, I will go over the results of this project, discussing the effect of separating the solar wind into fast and slow streams, as well as separating the angular momentum carried by the protons, alpha particles and magnetic field stresses. In addition to the momentum flux, I will briefly discuss the mass loss and specific angular momentum per proton mass flux derived using the data.
