Wednesday 27 Nov 2019[Seminar] Gravitational Instability and Substructure in Protoplanetary Discs

Dr Cass Hall - University of Leicester

4th floor, Physics building 14:00-15:00

In the ALMA era of observational astronomy, we are availed of a plethora of spatially resolved images of protoplanetary discs, the site of exoplanet formation. At the earliest stages of the disc lifetime, it is likely that these objects are very massive, and therefore undergo evolution primarily driven through gravitational instability.

I will talk about what this means for detections and planet formation from a simulation side of things, and some of the challenges, numerical and observational, that we still face.
