Thursday 24 Jan 2019NT Seminar: A Galois counting problem

Sam Chow - University of Oxford

H103 14:30-16:30

We count monic quartic polynomials with prescribed Galois group, by box height. Among other things, we obtain the order of magnitude for D4 quartics, and show that non-S4 quartics are dominated by reducibles. The tools come from the theory of diophantine equations. This is joint work with Rainer Dietmann.
