Tuesday 20 May 2014Simulating the Generation of MHD Waves in the Low-Solar Atmosphere (TUE)

Stuart Mumford - University of Sheffield

Physics, 4th floor 14:00-15:00

This talk presents numerical simulations of MHD wave generation in the solar atmosphere. MHD waves are thought to provide energy to the upper layers of the solar atmosphere, heating it to millions of degrees Kelvin. The MHD waves in our simulations are generated by different types of motions found in the solar photosphere at a different periods. Using a new analysis method we analyse the results of the simulations to ascertain how much energy is contained in the different excited wave modes.
