Friday 05 Apr 2013Divisibility, ideal and valuation theory

Pham Ngoc Anh - Renyi Institute of Mathematics, Hungarian Academy of Sciences

Harrison 101 15:00-16:00

Classically, divisibility, ideal and valuation theory are three different approaches to the study of multiplication in certain algebraic number rings. In this talk we emphasise the importance of Gauss' Lemma in valuation theory and sharpen
Eisenstein's ctriterion. Divisibility theory provides a unified way to work in a bigger class of rings containing both domains and Boolean algebras.
