Having graduated from Keele University with First Class Honours in Mathematics, I am now a postgraduate researcher within the Mathematics department at the University of Exeter, under the supervision of Dr Markus MuellerDr Dave Hodgson and Professor Stuart Townley. Using demographic data for human populations worldwide, I apply mathematical and statistical techniques to investigate issues of ageing populations. I intend to project various scenarios of social change, such as National Health Services, Pension Schemes and Immigration Policies, into naïve national populations, based on evidence of demographic impacts from nations that already practice them. I will also investigate how naturally resilient populations are to demographic disturbances, such as outbreaks of disease, and ask whether nations vary in their ‘fitness’ to social and environmental changes.
