Dr. Alexander R. May MIET MInstP MIMA
University of Exeter Post-Doctoral Research Fellow on secondment to QinetiQ Farnborough.
My main interests lie in the mathematical modelling of systems, whether that be in the fields of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or even linguistics! My most recent work was at WaveOptics Ltd where I studied the optical design of augmented reality (AR) glasses, and the IT Innovation Centre where I worked on Natural Language Processing (NLP).
I have recently completed a PhD in Optoelectronics/Photonics (Physics) having expanded my expertise into the field of Telecommunications by taking an MSc in Communication Systems Engineering at the University of Portsmouth. Prior to this I spent two and a half years working as a researcher in the Rolls-Royce funded TFSUTC at the University of Surrey in the field of Computational Fluid Dynamics.
While my undergraduate training is in the field of mathematics, I have worked in a variety of fields in the past, including spending time in the Merchant Navy with P&O Nedlloyd, and in the security industry in a variety of roles - a true generalist!
