Module ECM 2204 Construction Site Management will introduce you to some of the external factors that will shape your design work as an engineer; the design team members, contracts, project management methods, construction regulations, and sustainability criteria, amongst others.
 
Design Team Members (including the Client, Developer, Project Manager, Cost Estimator, Architect, Engineering Consultants, Sub-Consultants, Contractor, Sub-Contractors)
 
Contracts (Fee Proposal, Scope of Works, Terms and Conditions, Traditional, Design and Build, Partnering, etc)
 
Project Management Methods (Business Case, Risk, Procurement, Planning, Estimation, Scheduling, Cost Control, Earned Value Management, Quality Management, Change Control)
 
• Health and Safety (Hazards, Impact, Likelihood, Risk Assessment, Mitigation)
 
Construction Regulations (Health and Safety Executive, Building Regulations, Construction Design and Management Regulations 2015)
 
Sustainability (Environmental Protection Act, Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM), Low Carbon Design)
 
These factors will be linked back to real life projects, so that you can understand how they are applied, and how they will affect you.  There will also be an element of surveying, so that you can gain an understanding of how sites are reconnoitred and then set out.  The surveying package will include:
 
Use of theodolite, level, tapes and electronic distance measurement device
Data handling and processing
Error resolution
Design of surveys
