John Kilpatrick holds an EPSRC DTP scholarship for his PhD at the University of Exeter researching the Transmission matrix to detect cancer in vivo.

In his masters, also at the University of Exeter, he studied Raman spectroscopy under the supervision of Nick Stone. The group was able to combine a deep Raman spectroscopy technique (SORS) with a fluorescence suppression technique (SERDS) for the first time.

PhD research

Currently he is working in the structured light group led by Dave Phillips to try and combine the Raman probe biomedical group with the wavefront shaping technologies to build a smart needle for use in hospitals.
