Mr Brian Stretton
Having served a 4 year Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship with a leading Civil Engineering company, I became involved in the design, manufacture, assembly and testing/commissioning of large lifting structures within the global shipping industry for ports and containerisation. Working mainly overseas on large contracts. I relocated to Cornwall in 2004 and worked as an engineering design draftsman for local super yacht manufacturer, In 2006 started to work for the Cornwall College Group and took a Teaching Diploma with Plymouth University and worked as an Engineering Lecturer and Course Manager in general and mechanical engineering, later moving across to Falmouth Marine School as Course Manager in Marine Engineering. In 2016 I took my current position working with The University of Exeter at Penryn Campus as Engineering Technician, working in the Renewable Energy Laboratory running timetabled labs and assisting the students wherever possible. In mid-2018 we opened a new facility within the Renewable Energy Group as the REEF Building (Renewable Energy Engineering Facility). Within this new facility is the main workshop where we have a range of engineering machining equipment, including a VMC Mill. We also have a clean workshop that includes a Laser Cutter, 3D Printer and Soldering Stations. Other attributes to the facility are a 6 x 3 x 0.7m Ocean Basin, 45Kw powered wind tunnel and Solar powered Boat. This new facility also has a large area that has the potential to facilitate large teaching and student project builds. I now work within the REEF building at Penryn campus on a day to day basis supporting the needs of students regarding project and dissertation work.
