Conference attendees discuss research at the poster session

Penryn Campus postgraduates host successful student conference

Penryn Campus postgraduate students celebrated their research achievements at Exploring Research in Cornwall, an annual conference supported by the University of Exeter's Researcher Development programme.

The conference, which took place on 27th March in The Exchange, celebrated the quality and diversity of research carried out by Exeter's Cornwall-based postgraduate research students. Presentations covered four broad research themes: Adapting to Change, Interactions, Pioneering Ideas, and Sustainable Practices. Keynote speakers included Dr Helen Smith (College of Engineering, Mathematics, and Physical Sciences; CEMPS) and Professor Paul Collier (Business School).

The event was organised by a small committee of current postgraduate research students, including Aimee Murray (Medical School), Jodi Walsh (CEMPS), Paula Marjamaki (College of Life and Environmental Sciences; CLES), Jack Boyle (CLES), Sara Mynott (CLES), and David Packman (CEMPS).

Jodi Walsh and Sara Mynott received awards for best oral and poster presentations, respectively. Robyn Pointer (CEMPS) won a People's Choice award for her poster, while Ian Skicko (CLES) was recognised for the day's Best Tweet.

Conference attendees were extremely positive about the event, saying that it provided "really great insight into others' research" and presented an opportunity to "see a range of styles and be inspired for writing future presentations."
