Mr Jacob Roth
Postgraduate Researcher (Metamaterials CDT 2016)
Jacob is a PhD student within the XM2 CDT for Metamaterials, supervised by Prof. Feodor Ogrin & Prof. Volodymyr Kruglyak. He completed an MPhys at the University of York in 2016, where he researched controlled heating with an IR-laser for thin film growth in a Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) chamber.
His current reseach involves developing magnetically tunable patch antenna, using Yttrium Iron Garnet (YIG) thin films. Magnetic tuning of the antenna permits a greater frequency range for the antenna, without the need for mechanical tuning or the inclusion of many individually tuned antenna. Device improvements include: smaller dimensions, greater bandwidth and increased reliability.
