Mr David Bruce
Postgraduate Researcher (Metamaterials CDT 2020)
I graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Theoretical Physics from the University of Glasgow in 2014. Since then I've worked for QinetiQ specialising in sonar performance and Target Echo Strength (TES) modelling and measurements. In that role I've conducted a number of trials for various projects, predominantly looking at sonar calibration both in terms of absolute level and directivity.
At the 4th Underwater Acoustics Conference & Exhibition in 2017 I presented a model for improving our understanding of the uncertainties in TES measurements.
Joined the Centre of Doctoral Training (CDT) in Metamaterials in September 2020. Unlike most members of the CDT I am part-time - still working for QinetiQ who are funding my PhD into "new metasurfaces for acoustic control".
