A key tool in probing the galactic magnetic field is the synchrotron radiation emitted from cosmic rays. The interpretation of the emission data requires knowledge of cosmic ray number density, which is often assumed to be in energy equipartition with magnetic field energy across all lengthscales. In this work we use test particle simulations to track the propagation of protons through a magnetic trap to assess the impact the geometry of the field has on the number density on a scale less than 100pc. Our results indicate the geometry of the magnetic field plays a key role in the distribution of cosmic ray number density.
