Friday 09 Oct 2020: Structured light from lasers
Andrew Forbes - School of Physics, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa
Online 12:30-13:30
Spatially structured light implies the ability to tailor light in amplitude, phase and polarisation. There are many approaches to achieving this, from external tools that include spatial light modulators, geometric phase liquid crystal and meta-surface devices, to “at-the-source” approaches that include bulk lasers, microchip lasers and fibre lasers, to name but a few. In this tutorial style talk I will outline the recent advances in structuring light at the source, from concepts to applications, highlighting the open challenges and possible future trends.
