Asteroseismology - the study of stellar oscillations - lets you characterise stars from the inside out. Using basic observations of patterns of stellar pulsations in light curves from Kepler, K2 and TESS, we can obtain precise values for stellar mass, radius and age. By measuring the frequencies of individual oscillations, we can go even further and measure chemical composition, rotation, inclination and do inversion analysis of a star's interior. In this seminar, I will provide a brief introduction to asteroseismology, and show how it is a useful tool with two examples of asteroseismic research: the quantification of systematic uncertainties in Gaia parallaxes, and the measurement of internal stellar rotation in main sequence stars.
