Abstract:



The presentation will draw on the presenter’s over 40 years of experience in the Civil Engineering Industry. It will discuss a number of projects from the Water Sector in its broadest sense with the emphasis on challenging conventional thinking to achieve deliverable and cost-effective solutions. The aim of the presentation will be to enthuse and prepare students for the transition from academia to the world of the practising Civil Engineer.



Biography:



David is a Civil Engineer with a career spanning some 40 years working with Contractors, Consultants and within Client Organisations.

He graduated from Cambridge University and followed this by further study to specialise in the water sector at Cranfield University.

He now has his own consultancy, David Evans Ltd, and his professional activities relate mainly to identifying opportunities and seeking to pull together deliverable projects.

Immediately beforehand, David worked with Arup in their Cardiff office for almost 20 years, during which time he started and built up a Water Business covering Wales and the West Country. In this role, he was also instrumental in starting their GIS/Digital Services Group in Cardiff.

David’s professional interests include ICE, CIWEM and on Board of WISE CDT (Doctoral Training Programme with Bath, Bristol, Cardiff and Exeter Universities). Director of Natural Energy Wyre (seeking to develop the first tidal range power generating scheme in the UK). Mentor with Business Wales.
