Thursday 25 Oct 2018: NT Seminar: The generalized Gauss circle problem
Dr David Lowry-Duda - University of Warwick
H103 14:30-16:30
The Gauss circle problem concerns the discrepancy between the
number of lattice points contained in a circle centered at the origin, and
the area of that circle. This is one of the most studied problems in
analytic number theory. Less well known (and more enigmatic) is the
generalization to higher dimensions, which we'll call the generalized Gauss
sphere problem. In this talk, we'll discuss recent progress on
understanding second moments associated to the Gauss sphere problem and see
how this progress stems from ideas on modular forms.
