Wednesday 24 Apr 2013Applied Statistics and England's HBSC study: Practical Issues for Methods, Models and Meaning

Neil Spencer - Statistical Service and Consultancy Unit, University of Hertfordshire

Plymouth Univeristy, Portland Square C2 15:00-16:00

The Health Behaviour In School-Aged Children (HBSC) study is a WHO Collaborative Cross-National Survey conducted every four years in 43 countries and regions across Europe and North America. The speaker is a statistician, lecturer and researcher at the University of Hertfordshire who is part of the team funded by the Department of Health to conduct the survey in England. In the course of providing the statistical expertise on the team, the speaker has encountered a number of practical issues that cause difficulties for standard statistical analyses. The talk will present these issues and the solutions implemented, hopefully provoking a discussion about other possible approaches.
