Hydrological Cycle Understanding via Process-Based Global Detection, Attribution and Prediction

HYDRA is a three-year consortium project that will deliver new insight into the coupling between the atmospheric hydrological cycle, sea surface temperatures and sea-ice, and land surface processes. We are also hoping to investigate methods for comparing models and observations, perhaps using techniques developed in medical imaging.

The Exeter contribution has a particular focus on the link between changes in large-scale hydrology and land surface processes and the carbon cycle. We aim to assist Oxford in preparing a large ensemble of climate models perturbed in their sub-gridscale parameterisations that use a variety of prescribed SST and sea-ice boundary conditions. We will look to constrain future changes through examining observations.
