Prakash’s research interests are mainly in the use of intelligent sensing and computing techniques for effective design, maintenance and management of civil infrastructure systems such as bridges. He received his undergraduate degree in civil engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras in 2000. He later completed his Masters (2002) and PhD (2005) at North Carolina State University in the USA. He then worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the applied computing and mechanics laboratory at Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland before joining Exeter as a lecturer in 2010. His masters thesis and doctoral dissertation were on the development and application of novel computing techniques for structural design and performance evaluation. His work at EPFL focused primarily on model-based and data-driven strategies for intepreting measurements from bridge monitoring. His work at Exeter has continued on these topics and also expanded to include other inter-disciplinary research topics such as bridge scour and the impacts of flood hydrodynamics on bridge structures.
