Thursday 10 Jan 20193D Morphable Models of Faces for Medical Applications

Dr Athanasios (Thanos) Papaioannou - Institute of Child Health, University College London and Great Ormond Street Hospital

IAIS Lecture Theatre 1 14:30-15:30

3D Morphable Models (3DMMs) are powerful statistical models of 3D facial shape and texture. The spectrum of their use is wide and includes face recognition both in 2D and 3D, reconstruction of facial shape from single images e.t.c. Even though many 3DMMs have been proposed based on various populations with healthy individuals, it has not been examined how they can describe people with facial deformities. In this talk, we show how 3DMMs can be applied for diagnostics, risk stratification, and treatment simulation for the case of craniosynostosis syndromes, like Apert and Crouzon and for orthognathic (jaw) surgery.
