Careers and employability

While studying at the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences, you will develop an in-depth knowledge of your chosen subject while developing skills valued by prospective employers such as problem-solving, decision-making, planning and organising, communication and leadership.

Our dedicated Employability Officer works within the College to:

  • ensure your degree fully prepares you for employment
  • supports you to organise work placements
  • organises visits and talks from employers
  • promotes networking opportunities
  • arranges careers events
  • engages alumni as mentors

Our specialist Careers Consultant works with the College to:

  • deliver information on career options at appropriate times during your degree
  • provide one-to-one guidance

The University’s Career Zone offers a wide range of activities to help develop your CV. The College works closely with the Employability service to ensure that students have the opportunity to meet prospective graduate employers, seek advice on choosing a career and develop the skills needed to compete successfully in the employment market.

We encourage our students to take part in the Exeter Award and the Exeter Leaders Award which are programmes recognising your participation in extra-curricular activities such as:

  • attendance at skills workshops
  • training courses
  • participation in sporting and musical activities
  • engagement in work experience and voluntary work
