Pre-University Physics Course

Taste University life for a few days this summer

In June 2012 we are running our very popular Pre-University Physics Course at Exeter. This course is intended for students who are, or have been, studying Physics or Physical Sciences at pre-university level and who are considering applying to study Physics or related subjects at university.

The course will provide a taste of university life in all its diversity. During the three day programme students will attend lectures, visit the research and teaching laboratories of the Department of Physics, live in University student accommodation and make use of our recreational, sporting and social facilities.

Course Fees:
Full Residential Course
Fee: £150.00*
The full residential option is inclusive of full-board accommodation at one of Student Halls of Residence. This starts with lunch on Monday 25 June and ends with breakfast on Wednesday 27 June 2012, inclusive of the social programme activities.
Non-Residential Course
Fee: £90.00*
The non-residential option is for local students who are able to travel to and from the University for the duration of the course and do not require overnight accommodation. The fee is inclusive of lunch and dinner on Monday 25 and Tuesday 26 June, in addition to the social programme activities, but without overnight accommodation or breakfast.

*Both the full residential and non-residential course fees are not inclusive of transport costs to or from the University. Students are expected to make their own travel arrangements, but will be provided with further information about transport to and from Exeter upon formally registering for the Course.

Eligible secondary schools will have received further information about the residential and details of how students may apply. Please contact your school in the first instance for further information.

Course Scholarships

Two scholarships are available to cover Pre-University Physics Course fees.  Applications are invited from students who satisfy one or more of the following:

  • currently living in care
  • limited/no family history of attending a Higher Education Institution
  • low-income household or students with parent/carer unemployed
  • recognised disability
  • currently in receipt of free school meals

If you wish to apply for a scholarship, you will need to complete the student section of the PUPC Scholarship Application Form (please ask your school for further information) and ask an appropriate member of staff from your school to complete the teacher section.

The deadline for scholarship applications is Friday 16 March 2012.

Only two spaces on the course will be held for scholarship recipients. However, scholarship applicants are welcome to pay their fee online and secure a place on the course. This fee will then be refunded if you are awarded a scholarship.
