Email:

I am currently an associate research fellow in the Biomedical Physics group in 2013. I completed my PhD in 2017 under Jude Meakin, Chris Smith and Peter Winlove supervisions.

The academic projects that I have been involved in were aimed at investigating the pressure and stress distribution in the lumbar spine; the aim of my PhD project was to incorporate the FE modelling and MR images to explore spinal stress distributions in different postures. MR images of volunteers in a supine posture were segmented to create the geometry of the 2D (and later, 3D) models in CAD and finite element software.

As I was writing up my PhD thesis, I worked as a part-time research project as an associate research fellow. This project was a collaboration between University of Exeter and Bournemouth University in which of more sophisticated 3D design and modelling were created by incorporating the contact behaviour and the use of quantitative fluoroscopy data.

For the past six months I have been involved in a project as an “entrepreneur lead” with Alex Corbett to potentially commercialise a microscopy calibration tool. This project was awarded an Innovation to Commercialisation (ICURe) award, led by SETsquared and funded by HEFCE and InnovateUK. This enabled Sahand to attend international meetings to identify the commercial potential of the new tool and develop a deeper understanding of the target markets.
