Mr Iago Rodriguez Diez
Postgraduate Researcher (Metamaterials CDT 2017)
I am currently a PhD student within the Centre for Doctoral Training Metamaterials programme (XM2) at the University of Exeter.
My previous academic education is a BSc degree in Physics (graduated in 2015) at University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain) and a MSc in
Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (graduated in 2016) at University of Barcelona (Spain). For my master's final project I designed the optical system of a flow micro-cytometer and implemented it as a Lab-on-a-chip platform. This device could be used for counting and sizing particles flowing along a microchannel.
Regarding my PhD project, it is about "Bio-chemical sensing with photonic metamaterials"; under the supervision of Anna Baldycheva and Geoff Nash. It currently involves the production of several laser sources (each one with a different wavelength) from only one broadband light source; everything integrated on chip for Lab-on-a-chip applications. This multiplexation would enable the possibility of performing different analysis techniques consecutively on the same chip and using only one light source.
