Electromechanical properties of suspended graphene membranes
I am a second year post-graduate student in the Quantum Systems and Nanomaterials group, having completed my MPhys degree at the University of Exeter in 2011.
In my research, the interplay between the mechanical deformation of graphene membranes and the resulting change in electronic properties is being investigated. Of particular interest is the formation of pseudo-magnetic fields due to the introduction of non-uniform strain in the membrane, and the interaction of these fictitious fields with an external magnetic field in the quantum Hall regime. My work consists of nanofabrication of devices and subsequent measurement at milli-Kelvin temperatures and in high magnetic fields, as well as computational modelling.
