Research Themes

Academic Lead: Prof. Saverio Russo

The group researches the fundamental properties of condensed matter systems. The optical, electrical, thermal and mechanical properties are investigated both experimentally (Russo, Usher, Plaut, Horsell) and theoretically (Srivastava, Portnoi, Foteinopoulou, Mariani, Shytov). Scientifically as well as industrially important materials are studied, including graphene, carbon nanotubes, semiconductor quantum dots and superlattices, topological insulators and dichalcogenides. The aim is to understand these systems at the deepest possible level to not only establish the underlying physics but also the potential for industrial applications.
