Research

Research areas

Our research into graphene focusses on the following areas:

Quantum transport

Electron interference and interaction effects.  Mesoscopic phenomena. Quantum Hall physics. (Saverio Russo, Monica Craciun, Alan Usher, Eros Mariani, Andrey Shytov, Misha Portnoi)

Optical properties

Ultrafast optical studies, pump-probe spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy. (Euan Hendry, Julian Moger, Annette Plaut)

Scanning probe studies

Topological and electrostatic characteristics of graphene, mechanical manipulation at the atomic level. (David Horsell, Simon Bending)

Mechanical thermal and phonon properties

Young modulus and thermal conductivity studies. (Adrian Wyatt, Mark Beard, Eros Mariani, GP Srivastava)

Fabrication of graphene

Including techniques for producing large-area graphene sheets. (Monica Craciun, Mark Beard)

Graphene-based devices

Including optical displays, chemical and biological sensors. (Monica Craciun, Mark Beard, Saverio Russo)

Multilayer graphene

Quantum transport in bilayer and trilayer graphene.  The transition from graphene to graphite. (Saverio Russo, Monica Craciun, Alan Usher, Andrey Shytov)
