This course is being run by INTO University of Exeter in conjunction with the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences.Programme overview
This 60-credit Certificate programme is being offered at INTO this year in conjunction with the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences. The programme is designed for postgraduates intending to study for a doctorate at the University of Exeter who need to improve their English language and research skills, or whose research ideas are not yet firm enough to undertake doctoral studies in these subjects.
The Pre-Doctoral Studies course runs for two terms (21 weeks), starting in August and ending in December each year. On this course you will:
- Improve your English language proficiency in the core skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing, within the context of postgraduate studies in your discipline
- Work with leading scientists in your chosen area of study
- Enhance your scientific report writing and presentational skills
- Develop research and study skills appropriate to the context and culture of a UK university
- Be integrated into a College research team
- Acquire a good knowledge of your chosen research area through two substantial projects
- Refine your research proposal prior to formal PhD registration
