Civil and Structural Engineering ranked amongst world's best by international league table

Civil and Structural Engineering at the University of Exeter has been ranked amongst the best in the world by an influential international league table.

The QS World University Rankings 2014 placed Civil and Structural Engineering as being amongst the top 200 - strengthening the department’s position as being among the very best of its kind worldwide.

Professor Dragan Savic, Head of Engineering, welcomed the latest rankings. He said: “I am absolutely delighted that we feature in such a prestigious international ranking.

He said: “This is testament to our burgeoning reputation for world-class research and teaching. We set very high standards and challenge our students from the moment they arrive, but in return proved an exceptional environment in which they can truly flourish.

“Civil and Structural Engineering provides crucial support for our daily lives – whether it be through roads and harbours, railways and airports, hospitals, sports stadiums and schools, or even access to drinking water and shelter from the weather.

“Engineers help change our surroundings, improve the lives of millions of people and solve infrastructure problems in the developed and developing world. To be recognised as one of the top departments reflects everyone’s determination to make this a truly inspirational place to work and study.”

Professor Ken Evans, Dean of the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences added: “I am delighted that Civil and Structural Engineering has been recognised as being amongst the world’s best, in the latest QS World University Rankings.

The QS World University Ranking for subjects currently evaluates more than 3,000 universities in the world and ranks the top 200. Now in its fourth year, the 2014 rankings featured 689 institutions, analysed 130 million citations and researched 10,639 programmes.

The University of Exeter features in the world’s Top 200 institutions in 15 of the 30 subjects featured in this year’s rankings.
