Wednesday 30 May 2012: The Mechanism of Disc Disruption by a Magnetic Star (Taylor and Francis sponsored)
Dr Christopher Campbell - University of Newcastle
Physics, 4th floor 14:00-14:30
We are grateful to Taylor & Francis for sponsoring this seminar.
The mechanism of disc disruption by a magnetic central star is of great importance in T Tauri stars (protostars),
X-ray binary pulsars (accreting magnetic neutron stars) and in Intermediate Polars (accreting magnetic white
dwarfs). A mechanism will be presented which explains such disruption, in a way consistent with observed magnetic
accretion via a magnetically channelled flow (accretion curtain).
