This talk will touch on various places where geometric reasoning assists in our understanding of nature. Topics include solar magnetic storms, DNA supercoiling, and the structure of honeycombs and foams.
Mitchell came to Exeter in 2007, after nine years as a Professor at UCL. He graduated from Harvard University with a Ph.D. in Astronomy, and then held research fellowships at the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Colorado and at the University of St. Andrews.
