Thursday 24 Nov 2011Maths seminar - Stochastic dynamics of a polymer translocating through a nanopore

Johan Dubbeldam - TU Delft

Harrison 203 15:00-16:00

That polymers may show surprising dynamics has been known for
quite some time. The displayed dynamics is strongly dependent on whether polymer movement is subject to constraints. A particular interesting case, is that in which a long DNA chain moves through a tiny hole. This process has a great number of potential applications, of which DNA sequencing is the most salient. I will address the dynamics, scaling relations and stochastics that play a role in this phenomenon using numerical simulations and analytical approximations of simplified polymer models.
