Thursday 14 May 2009Kelvin-Helmholz instabilities with Godunov-type SPH

Physics, 4th Floor interaction area 12:00-13:00

Kelvin-Helmholtz instability (KHI) has been performed with the Godunov-type SPH (GSPH) suggested by Inutsuka (2002). GSPH can describe the KHI across a high density gradient, while the standard SPH shows the complete absence of the KHI in the same situations. As a possible reason, an inaccurate force calculation of SPH in a density gradient has been studied in terms of the consistency and the lagrangian. Another aspect of GSPH will be shown briefly, which includes the numerical diffusion, multi-dimensional features and total performance comparison with the standard SPH.
