Wednesday 01 Jun 2022So many Suns, so many Earths? From discs and dust to pebbles, planetesimals, planets and people

Sebastiaan Krijt - University of Exeter

Building:One Constantine Leventis Teaching Room + remote 14:00-15:00

Exoplanet occurrence rates indicate that up to 60% of Sun-like stars host Earthsized
planets in their habitable zones, implying the existence of billions of
potentially habitable worlds in our Milky Way alone. But how Earth-like are these
Earth-sized planets really? And what does that even mean? In this talk, I will
describe how we can use our increasingly complete understanding of the planet
formation process to help characterise temperate, rocky exoplanets.
