Friday 22 Mar 2019: How flood modelling underpins flood management in England
Dr Jon Wicks - Jacobs
Harrison 170 13:30-14:30
Abstract:
Flood management includes a wide range of activities that work together to minimise the impact of flooding on people, infrastructure and business. Modelling underpins many of these activities, enabling a fuller understanding of current and future flood likelihood and consequences to supporting decision making.
This seminar will show how different types of modelling are necessary to support different activities (such as awareness raising, investment planning, design and warning). It will also talk about the needs for improvements in modelling and analysis to better support flood management.
Biography:
Jon is the Jacobs Global Technology Leader for flood risk modelling and has 30 years’ post-doctoral experience in the UK and internationally. A key part of his role is to work at the interface of flood modelling research, software development and project delivery to ensure that innovative, efficient and effective tools are developed and used to improve management of flood risk.
