Wednesday 11 Jul 2018[Seminar] Gaps, rings, spirals and holes - signs of newborn planets?

Daniel Price - Monash Centre for Astrophysics (MoCA)

4th Floor, Physics Building 14:00-15:00

I will discuss our efforts to understand recent spectacular ALMA and adaptive optics observations of protoplanetary discs. These beautiful images have thrown us many surprises. I will show how 3D gas and dust simulations can be used to make sense of the observations, and to give us clues about possible protoplanets hiding in these discs. Finally, I will present our recent kinematic detection of a `baby' planet embedded in a circumstellar disc.
