Thursday 16 Feb 2017NEST Seminar: A new concept for covert optical transmission of remote sensor data

Roger Hazelden - Technical Specialist – Sensors & Optoelectronics, Conekt

HAR/170 (3D Visualisation Suite)  12:30-13:30

For a defence application, Conekt is developing a system for covert transmission of remote sensor data using a novel free-space optical technique. To implement the concept in a real-world application there are challenges which will require new technology developments and materials. The talk will describe the concept and these challenges and offer an opportunity to discuss potential solutions.

Conekt is the Engineering Services division of ZF Race Engineering and provides consultancy, product development and testing services to customers in automotive, aerospace, defence, intelligent transport and a range of other industries.

Speaker biography:

Roger has over 30 years of experience in solving sensing and measurement problems for Conekt’s clients in many different industries including aerospace, automotive, defence, rail, energy and intelligent transport, often exploiting cross-industry technology transfer.  His group at Conekt specialises in making measurements within hostile and “difficult” environments using a wide range of optical and non-optical sensing techniques as well as the related engineering issues of sensor signal conditioning, robust electronics and packaging, micropower systems, energy harvesting, IoT and wired or wireless data transmission.  He is author or co-author of more than 25 conference and journal papers as well as 18 granted patents.

Seminar Convener: Dr Anna Baldycheva a.baldycheva@exeter.ac.uk
