Thursday 15 Dec 2016Statistical Science Christmas Seminar: "What drives commuter behaviour in Exeter?" Bayesian analysis for large surveys in social science

Dr Laura Dawkins - University of Exeter

H101 15:30-16:30

Commuter congestion in Exeter is at an all time high, and future plans for new homes and businesses in the area will only put further pressure on the current infrastructure. As part of the Innovate UK Engaged Smart Transport project, we aim to reduce congestion through behavioural change. Information about current commuter behaviour has been gathered through a large online survey, completed by over 3,000 Exeter commuters. We present a methodology for Bayesian analysis for large surveys in social science, applied here to identify the key drivers of commuter behaviour in Exeter and suggest possible approaches for behavioural change to reduce congestion.
