Paul O’Brien has worked at BT for 27 years, currently holding the position of Director of BT Research. He has undertaken many roles over that period including managing venture funds and technology start-ups, running large research programmes, leading international collaborative projects, and chairing standards committees. Currently he manages BT’s Research department. His background is mainly in software and systems, activities include realising smarter production planning, introducing new advanced data analytics capabilities, data driven operational modelling and exploiting optimisation in network design. He holds business and technical degrees from the London School of Economics, University College London and Essex University and University of Hertfordshire.
