Mark Girolami - University of Warwick and The Alan Turing Institute for Data Science

Rolle 116 (Plymouth University) 14:00-15:00

The age of Data Science promises much in the way of advances to all human endeavour. Statistical Science has been making these sorts of advances quietly for the past two centuries. I will talk about some of the research in Statistical Science my team and I are doing at the Alan Turing Institute for Data Science. This work seeks to reconsider the whole area of Numerical Computation from a statistical perspective and I will present our work on the emerging area of Probabilistic Numerical Computation and the impact it is having on a number of areas of science, engineering and medicine.
