Friday 28 Oct 2016: Magnetism and other phenomena in quantum gases
Prof Daniela Pfannkuche - Hamburg
Newmann Red 12:30-13:30
At the interface between model and solid state reality ultra cold quantum gases take an intermediary function. They allow to experimentally simulate solid state systems under unusual conditions and to study their behaviour. On the other hand they more and more evolve into a test bed for theoretical predictions. In this talk the potential to simulate magnetic solid state properties with bosonic quantum gases in optical lattices will be presented. Special attention will be devoted to a two-component system, which, beside well known also exhibits unusual (iso)magnetic phases. Moreover, a first glimpse onto thermalisation dynamics after a quantum quench in these systems will be provided.
