Thursday 19 Feb 2015: The plectic Taniyama group
Chris Blake - University of Cambridge
H103 15:00-16:00
I will discuss recent work which develops the theory of complex multiplication in the setting of Nekovar and Scholl’s "plectic motives". I will provide plenty of motivation to explain the need for such a theory, and give an explicit description of the plectic analogue of the Taniyama group. This generalises a theorem of Deligne in the classical case, and explains the ‘hidden symmetries’ in the classical theory of complex multiplication observed by Nekovar.
