Friday 21 Mar 2014: Colloquium: Geometrical and wave optics of absolute optical instruments
Prof. Mgr. Tomas Tyc - Masaryk University, Czech Republic
Newman Red 12:00-13:00
Absolute optical instruments are devices that perform imaging without any aberrations at all. The best known example is Maxwell's fish eye, others
include the Eaton and Luneburg lenses.
In the talk I will show a general method for designing the refractive index thas makes an absolute instrument and show the properties of these devices from the point of view of geometrical and wave optics. I will also demonstrate how the imaging properties of absolute instruments and the Gouy phase influence the frequency spectrum of their eigenmodes.
